The Roman theater
The Roman theater is one of the most famous
monuments in Alexandria and while the theaters spread across different
countries such as Greece, Italy and Turkey during the Roman era with many
examples of these structures still found in many regions around Europe and the
Middle East, the Roman Theater in Alexandria is the only one One of the landmarks
in Egypt.
The Roman theater in Alexandria is one of the monuments
of the Roman era which was a common
feature in the Greco-Roman era and was built at the beginning of the fourth
century AD, and it is the only Roman theater in Egypt.
This building was discovered by chance
while removing dirt to search for the tomb of Alexander the Great by the Polish
expedition in 1960,The building is
listed in the shape of a horseshoe and consists of 13 rows of marble terraces
numbered with Greek letters and numbers to organize the seating process
The Roman
theater was used to host various artistic events such as concertsIn the
Byzantine era, the theater was used as a conference hall where important
meetings, such as public gatherings and government summits, were held.
